Income Tax· 1 min read

Knowing which document feeds which part of the return reduces mistakes.

Salary statement

The main proof of an employee’s income. Take each salary component (basic, allowances, bonus) from it.

Tax deduction certificate

Issued by the employer under section 145 of the Income Tax Act. It shows salary, joining date, TIN and total tax deducted, and supports your tax credit claim.

Bank statement

Shows salary credits, bank interest, savings certificate profit and the year-end balance.

TIN certificate and National ID

Your TIN identifies you as a taxpayer. Match names and address exactly to your NID.

Proof of investments

Investments in NBR-approved categories earn a tax rebate. Keep the certificates or statements.

Property deeds

If you bought or sold property in the year, enter the details correctly in your wealth statement.

Vehicle advance tax (AIT)

Advance tax paid at BRTA is deducted from total tax. You need the Transaction ID on the receipt.

Declare income from any other source too, and keep proof.

Please note: tax law, the Finance Act and the online system can change every fiscal year. Check the latest National Board of Revenue (NBR) guidance before acting.
